Die Tablet-Revolution

Tablets sind unaufhaltsam auf dem Vormarsch bzw. Einmarsch in die Gesellschaft. Und das auch noch mit einer nie dagewesenen Geschwindigkeit, wie Ihnen diese Infografik anschaulich zeigt:

Während die Elektrizität 30 Jahre, das Telefon 25 Jahre und der Computer immerhin auch noch 8 Jahre brauchten, um 10% der amerikanischen Haushalte zu durchdringen, schaffte das das Tablet in gerade mal 18 Monaten. Keine andere Technologie konnte bislang mit dieser Geschwindigkeit mithalten, man kann also zu Recht von einer technologischen oder digitalen Revolution sprechen.

Tablet adoption is exploding in the United States and a new study conducted by Pew Research Center shows that 11% of consumers in the U.S. now own tablets just 18 months after Apple redefined the category in March of 2010. – BGR

The number of U.S. adults who own a tablet device nearly doubled after the holiday season from 10 percent to 19 percent, according to the Pew Research Center. Measured from mid-December to mid-January, the impressive increase in tablet ownership means that approximately 29 percent of American adults now own either an e-reader or tablet device — up from 18 percent in December. – Technology Review
Tablets will take over sooner than you think. On an earning conference call in January, Apple CEO Tim Cook said, “I truly believe, and many others in the company believe, that there will come a day that the tablet market in units is larger than the PC market.” – Forbes

The ereader’s days are numbered. Though 6 million ereaders were sold in 2010, experts predict it is all downhill from here for these devices, which will be edged out by the growing number of increasingly affordable tablets on the market. By 2015, twice as many people will own tablets as do ereaders. By the end of 2012, the number of people owning tablets will overtake the number of those owning ereaders, according to research by Forrester, a tech research company. – Huffington Post
